Tiktoker Murja Kunya Arrested Whilst Booking Hotels For Mega Birthday Bash

A popular Tiktoker based in Kano, Murja Kunya, has been arrested by operatives of the Kano State Police Command for corrupting the morals of society.

Kunya was picked up by the police while she was trying to book hotel rooms for guests who came from distant places to attend her much-publicized birthday bash.

The skit maker was reportedly arrested for using vulgar words in her videos, and by implication corrupting the morals of people in the society.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the arrest, said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda, has ordered that she undergoes psychiatric evaluation.

Murja’s arrest comes after a Shari’ah Court in Bichi petitioned the state commissioner of police to arrest and investigate her and other TikTok users.

Murja Kunya, full name Murja Ibrahim Kunya, is a Nigerian Hausa tiktok content creator, actress, skit maker, model and brand influencer.

Kunya is a Kannywood tiktoker and actress based in Kano state. She was born on 12th January and is in her mid-twenties.

She has over 109,000 followers on Tiktok and her videos have garnered over 365,000 likes.

Murja is a Muslim born into an Islamic family. Her parents are Alhaji and Haija Kunya.

In September 2022, a Sharia court had written to the Kano State Commissioner of Police to arrest and investigate Miss Murja Ibrahim Kunya alongside other Tiktokers for corrupting the morals of the society.

The letter read in part, “Sequel to the complaint lodged by Muhd Ali Hamza Esq, Abba Mahmud, Esq, Sunusi I. Umar Esq, Abba, A.T Bebeji Esq, B.I Usman Esq, Muhd Nasir Esq, L.T Dayi Esq, G.A Badawi & Badamasi Suleiman Gandu Esq, I am directed by the presiding Upper Sharia Court Judge, Bichi Division Kano to write and kindly request you to conduct investigation against the above mentioned suspects for proper action”.

Other tiktokers included in the letter are Mr 442, Safara’u, Dan Maraya, Amude Booth, Kawu Dan Sarki, Ado Gwanja, Ummi Shakira, Samha Inuwa and Babiana.

Police arrested her on Monday, January 30th 2023.
