Who is Shemar Dealvin Hayes? Man Killed In Steele Creek Shooting

Shemar Dealvin Hayes has been identified as the victim of a shooting in Steele Creek, North Carolina with a suspect at large.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, shortly after 12:00 p.m., Steele Creek Division officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 11600 block of Red Hickory Lane.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. MEDIC responded and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of CMPD’s Operations Command, Victim Services, MEDIC and the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted.

The victim in this case was then identified as 23-year-old Shemar Dealvin Hayes.

Authorities have notified his next-of-kin of his death.

CMPD’s Homicide Unit is now requesting the public’s assistance to find the suspect.

Detectives are requesting anyone with doorbell camera footage or any other video surveillance at or near the crime scene to contact 704-432-TIPS and ask to speak with Detective Akers.

The Homicide Unit is specifically canvassing the Grier Fork neighborhood and the area of Red Hickory Lane, Rice Planters Road and Broad Oak Drive during the timeframe of 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Detective Akers is the lead detective assigned to this case.

Steele Creek is primarily considered to be a community and neighborhood in the southwestern part of Mecklenburg County in North Carolina.

It is generally defined geographically by the original boundaries of Steele Creek Township.

Most of Steele Creek is within the city limits of Charlotte but the areas that have not yet been annexed are also recognized as a Township of North Carolina.

The population of the Steele Creek community was 76,301 as of 2020, roughly two-thirds of which is located within the City of Charlotte.

The Steele Creek community derives its name from the small creek bearing the same name.

It is believed that name “Steele” was the family surname of Scotch-Irish immigrants who settled in the area in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

The region was eventually designated as Steele Creek Township, one of the original 15 Townships of Mecklenburg County.
