Who is Shant Soghomonian? Man Arrested for Setting Fire to Bernie Sanders’ Office

Shant Soghomonian, 35, has been arrested for setting fire to the office of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders in Burlington, Vermont.

Soghomonian reportedly went to the office on Friday, April 5th located at One Church Street.

He reportedly went to the third floor where Sanders’ office and set it on fire.

Security camera footage showed Soghomonian using liquid fuel to douse the office door and then lighting it up.

Shant Soghomonian, who is also known as Michael, hails from Northridge, California.

He was arrested Sunday morning and charged with using fire to damage a building used in interstate commerce, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont.

If convicted, Soghomonian faces a minimum of five years in prison with a maximum sentencing of 25 years.

He could also face charges of up to $25,000.

Senator Bernard (Bernie) Sanders is the senior U.S. Senator from the State of Vermont.

He is a two time Democratic Presidential primary candidate, having competed unsucessfully in the party’s primaries in both 2016 and 2020.
