Investigators with Port St. Lucie police say Manatee K-8 Academy teacher, 45-year-old Jamie Felix, was kidnapped along with her two children at the 9000 block of S. US-1 in Port St. Lucie on Friday evening by Felix’s estranged husband, Ray Felix.

Coworkers of Jamie Felix received a suspicious email from her on Friday evening and were then not able to get in contact with her, prompting them to call police.

Several posts on social media were also made reporting that Jamie Felix had been kidnapped and seeking help to find her.

Whils Port St. Lucie police were investigating this suspicious email from Jamie that was later found to be coerced by her estranged husband, they received a call about a shooting at about 7:30 p.m. in the back parking lot of the Quality Inn at 1505 Belvedere Road, west of Interstate 95.

They found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound when they got there, said West Palm Beach spokesman Mike Jachles.

Officers attempted CPR but she was declared dead by paramedics.

Ray Felix had entered a rental car with his two boys, aged 10 and 17, and forced Jamie into her vehicle.

The two vehicles then drove in tandem all the way to the Quality Inn near Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach.

“The victim, Jamie, got out of the car and that’s when the suspect got out of the car as well and shot her multiple times in the parking lot,” said West Palm Beach Police Department public information officer Mike Jachles.

Jachles said the deadly shooting happened in front of the two children.

Investigators say Ray Felix then left the two boys outside the motel and then drove the rental car to a car rental place about a mile away while the children were still at the motel.

At that point, police say Ray Felix returned the car before being confronted by officers.

“(Ray Felix) dropped that car off and was off the property when officers found him at which time he pulled out a gun and fired a single shot to his head,” said Jachles.

Ray Felix later died at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

The boys gave statements at the police department.

“Now you have a family that is going to be scarred and children who this is going to affect the rest of their lives,” said Jachles.

Witnesses told WPTV reporter Briana Nespral that the motel’s parking lot was blocked off for several hours.

“I was a little bit concerned about what was going on since I’m staying here,” Norberto Contreras said Saturday morning.
