A Nigerian woman in Cyprus, Rachael Oluwapelumi Sodeke, has died in mysterious circumstances after falling ill whilst being rushed to hospital.
Reports in Cyprus reveal a woman was being transported to the hospital after suddenly falling ill.
She passed away en route before they could administer her medical attention.
Police later identified the deceased as Rachael Oluwapelumi Sodeke.
Information from the police indicates she died on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at around 11:00 am, when she suddenly fell ill at her residence and was being taken to the hospital by her brother.
Sodeke was a resident of Gönyeli.
Gönyeli is a town in Cyprus, near the capital city Nicosia. It is de facto under the control of Northern Cyprus. Over the years the town has merged with North Nicosia, making it connurbated with the city. ts population as of 2011 is 11,671.
Cyprus houses a sizeable Nigerian immigrant community.
In 2022, a statement issued by the Chairperson, of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa said that Nigerians should avoid Northern Cyprus.
Dabiri-Erewa said that Nigerians are becoming victims of assaults and killings in Northern Cyprus.
It is currently unknown what led to the death of Rachael Oluwapelumi Sodeke.
