Obi Cubana biography

Obi Cubana is a Nigerian businessman, entertainer, entrepreneur, hotelier and showman, known as the owner of the popular Cubana groups.

Cubana was born Obinna Iyiegbu on April 12th, 1975 to his mother, Ezinne.

He hails from Oba, a community in Demili-South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria.

The entrepreneur is his parents’ fourth child and the last born.

The young Cubana attended Central Primary School for his first school leaving certificate.

He proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha for his West Africa Senior School Certificate (WASSCE).

Obi Cubana continued his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he enrolled to study political science.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1998.

Obi started his career as a nightclub mogul when he founded the Ibiza Club in Abuja in 2006.

His aim was to provide the premiere establishment for fun lovers and nightlife seekers in Abuja and he wildly succeeded.

Cubana parlayed the success of his enterprise by founding more establishments under his Cubana Group.

He founded the first establishment in the Cubana chain in Owerri, Imo State, and currently has multiple clubs in Lagos, Enugu, Port Harcourt and more.

He has ties to another popular Nigerian, Pascal Ikechukwu aka Cubana Chief Priest.

Chief Priest worked for Obi as the general manager of the Cubana group before branching out on his own.

EFCC

The Nigerian entrepreneur has generational wealth that his children and their children’s children would enjoy all on the back of his hospitality businesses.

He also shocked Nigeria when his mum’s burial went viral due to the lavishness on display.

It must be noted that Obi Cubana had issues with the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Cubana spent four days in the custody of the EFCC in 2022 before being released after being suspected of money laundering and other crimes.

Ebele Iyiegbu was born in Obosi, Anambra state in 1979.

Obi Cubana mother burial

Cubana held arguably the most expensive funeral in history in July 2021.

His mother, Ezinne Iyiegbu, died in December 2020 at the age of 75.

Obi Cubana mother burial was an extravagant affair that has never been matched and would probably never be matched in Nigerian history.

Cubana received over 400 cows, immortalised his mother with a $100,000 diamond pendant whilst a fleet of 67 private jets landed at the funeral.

Over 500 luxury cars were in attendance whilst money was sprayed like water at the venue.
