Biography

Sylvanus was born in Osisioma, Aba, a city located in Abia State, Nigeria.

She attended Ohabiam Primary and Secondary School, where she obtained her first school leaving certificate and West African Senior School Certificate. She also attended the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, graduating with a BSc degree in mass communication

Sylvanus began her acting career at the age of 17, in 1999. She has been featured in over 200 movies to date.

In 1999, Sylvanus began her acting career. Her Nollywood breakthrough came after featuring in the movie “Cry for Help”. This was in the year 2000.

Since then, Nkiru Sylvanus has been featured in many Nollywood movies. Some of the popular movies she featured are Cry for Help, Tears of Vengeance, Egg of Life, Mirror of Beauty, and many more.

Although she is one of the most beautiful Nollywood actresses, most of Sylvanus’ movies are tragic and sorrowful movies, where her roles often require her to cry. She has thus become known for crying in movies.

Nkriu Sylvanus got married to Amsterdam-based businessman Stanley Duru in 2014. Their union was laced with tons of controversies.

Sylvanus allegedly snatched her new husband from her then-good friend, actress Ogo Okoye. However, she clarified that they dated previously before he left her for Oge Okoye.

The couple divorced in 2019 over allegations of cheating on the part of Stanley Duru.

In January 2023, Nkiru remarried, this time to Riches Sammy.

In 2011, Sylvanus was included in the cabinet of former governor of Imo state Rochas Okorocha as his Special Assistant on Lagos State Affairs and later became his Special Adviser on Public Affairs.

Sylvanus was kidnapped on the 15th of December, 2012 around 2:30 pm. It was reported that a ransom of 100 million naira (an equivalent of $640,000 back then) had been paid for her release. The actress was released on the 21st of December, 2012 around 10:30 pm.
