Luis Gomez of Weslaco has been fingered as the suspect in the gut-wrenching kidnapping of 13-year-old Esmeralda Mireles in Weslaco, Texas.

An amber alert was issued late Thursday night for the disappearance of Mireles with Luis Gomez named as the prime suspect.

Texas authorities say they believe Mireles to be in grave danger from the suspect, 37-year-old Luis Gomez.

Who is Luis Gomez Weslaco?

37-year-old Luis Gomez of Weslaco has been fingered as the prime suspect in the kidnapping of Esmeralda Mireles.

Esmeralda Mireles was last seen Thursday at around 3 a.m. in the area of 100 N. Kansas Avenue, according to a news release from police.

Mireles suffers from “medical conditions,” the release added.

A news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety says law enforcement officials believe Mireles is in grave or immediate danger.

The release identified Luis Gomez as the prime suspect in the abduction of Esmeralda.

Gomez was last seen driving in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado with the license plate number GCW9494.

Mireles is described as being 5’6” and has orange, reddish colored hair with a mullet style haircut and weighs 145 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Mireles was last seen at 3 a.m. in the area of 100 N. Kansas.

Meanwhile, Luis Gomez is described as having black hair and brown eyes, a height of 5’3″ and a weight of 140 pounds.

Amber Alert Issued after Luis Gomez Abducted Esmeralda Mireles

A Texas Amber Alert has been issued for 13-year-old Esmeralda Mireles after she was allegedly abducted from Weslaco, TX in Hidalgo County,the Aware Foundation posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Esmeralda was last seen at around 3 a.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in the 100 block of N Kansas in Weslaco, according to the amber alert.

She was last seen wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Police are looking for 37-year-old Luis Gomez, a suspect wanted in connection with the abduction.

He’s believed to have taken Esmeralda in a maroon 2001 Chevrolet Silverado with Texas license plate number GCW9494.
