Lagos Big Boy IVD Charged With Murdering Wife, Bimbo – Remanded In Prison Custody

Lagos-based Nigerian car dealer, IVD, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter over the tragic death of his wife, Bimbo Martins.

IVD appeared in court today, Tuesday, January 31st 2023, alongside his lawyer and popular socialite, Blessing Okoro aka Blessing CEO.

He was slapped with charges of involuntary manslaughter and remanded into prison custody at the Kirikiri prisons.

IVD Wife Death

IVD, real name Ikechukwu Ogbonna was married to Abimbola, popularly known as Bimbo Martins, before she tragically died in October 2022.

The couple had five children but had recently been embroiled in multiple domestic violence incidents, which lead to them separating but then later reuniting.

Bimbo, on Saturday, October 15, 2022, was trapped in a fire, which gutted their home in Megamound Estate, Lekki, Lagos, leaving her severely injured, while IVD escaped with minor burns.

She was rushed to a hospital, where she died afterwards.

Reacting to the death of his wife, the suspect posted a series of videos, alleging that the deceased had been violent to him and destroyed his property.

IVD wrote: “See what she did to me? She just hit me right now. This is me bleeding. I won’t take this.”

A post on his page partly read, “My greatest hurts will be at my funeral, everyone will be like, Bimbo was such a fantastic human, a clown, she’s that one person you had on your sos call, she had the biggest heart, very smart, she looked out for her family. Bobby yen yen yen, my corpse will wake up and shout ‘Shut up all of you and put me inside the ground let me be with the lord’.”

Three days after his wife’s death, the Lagos State Police Command announced his arrest.

Police arrested IVD in the Lekki area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest to newsmen on Monday, saying, “He was arrested on Saturday, he’s with us.” 

IVD and Bimbo

Ikechukwu Ogbonna, aka IVD and Abimbola (Bimbo) Martins were a Lagos celebrity power couple who ame to a tragic end when Bimbo died in a fire.

The couple were married for 16-years and had five children!

Bimbo died in a fire on their Lekki property in October 2022 which her husband esaped with minor burns.

Mama Jazz, the sister to Bimbo, announced her death in a series of Instagram posts.

In one of the posts, Jazz accused the Lagos-based businessman of killing Bimbo.

“My hands are shaking. Bimbo is gone. Bimbo is gone- My sister is gone. The fire is burning me Haaaaaaa. IVD you killed my only sister, Abimbola. IVD killed my sister, IVD killed my sister, IVD killed my sister,” she wrote.

Bimbo’s death comes amid claims of domestic violence in their marriage.

In 2019, Bimbo accused her husband of assaulting her for several years, the couple seemingly reconciled a year later.

To mark their reunion, IVD played shared a video that they had reconciled.

However, fresh drama started out between the couple last year, leadng to a heated confrontation.

During the alleged altercation, a fire was said to have gutted their home in Megamound Estate, Lekki, Lagos, leading to Bimbo’s death.
