Jaidy Alcala Edinburg Tx was one of two American teens killed in an ATV accident the night of Sunday, November 26th.

The two teens died when an ATV rolled off a levee and into a canal along Rio Grande Care Road in northwest Edinburg. 

The girls were trapped inside the vehicle when it submerged underwater.

Who is Jaidy Alcala Edinburg Tx?

Jaidy Alcala was an American teen who died when an ATV she was riding on fell into a canal.

She was 18 years old.

Alcala was with fellow teen, Elizabeth Arias when the accident occured at Rio Grande Care near Lake Edinburg Sunday.

Both teens attended Edinburg North High School.

The school mourned their passing in a statement: “Cougar nation mourns the loss of recent graduates, Leila Arias and Jaidy Alcala. 

“We extend our most profound condolences to their families and friends. May they rest in peace,” Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District said in a statement.

According to investigations of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, both girls died when their ATV rolled off a levee and into a canal along Rio Grande Care Road in northwest Edinburg. 

The girls were trapped inside the vehicle when it submerged underwater.

Arias, 17, was said to be in charge of the vehicle whilst Jaidy Alcala Edinburg Tx was behind her.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office released an initial statement on the accident.

“On Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 6:50 pm, our Communications Division received a 911 call regarding an ATV accident near Edinburg Lake, at the 6400 block of Rio Grande Care in rural Edinburg, Texas.  

Deputies arrived at the location and made contact with the caller who stated two juvenile females arrived at his home asking for help with apparent injuries.  The females were driven to a local hospital by the caller’s wife.

Deputies found the ATV Razor inside the canal with about 2-3 feet of water on its side. Deputies saw two females trapped inside the ATV which was partially submerged underwater.  Deputies pulled females out of the water and started life-saving measures.  The females were transported by ambulance to a hospital where they were later pronounced dead, and an autopsy was ordered for both females by the justice of the peace.  

HCSO Investigators responded to the location along with our Crime Scene Specialist to process the scene.  Investigators spoke with the two surviving females, and it was revealed that the driver (deceased) of the ATV lost control of the vehicle and drove into a canal near Edinburg Lake.  

HCSO urges the community to use caution when driving ATVs due to a significant number of accidents that have been reported.

In an update, the Sherif’s Office wrote that they had identified the two victims: “The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two females involved in the tragic ATV accident as 18-year-old, Jaidy Alcala and 17-year-old, Leila Elizabeth Arias.

Our prayers go out to the families and communities as they endure this hardship.

Our office is committed to the prevention of these dreadful incidents through the education programs offered and enforcement of all state laws regarding these vehicles.

We implore our community to please educate themselves on the capabilities of these sports utility vehicles, use proper safety equipment such as helmets, stay up-to-date with all required maintenance, attend all offered training sessions by dealers, and most importantly understand the drivers’ individual limitations,”

According to the Sherif’s investigation, this is how the accident went down.

Hidalgo County sheriff’s investigators determined that the younger of the two women killed in a Thanksgiving weekend ATV accident was operating the vehicle. 

Officials say 17-year-old Elizabeth Arias was in the driver’s seat when the ATV went into a canal and overturned, trapping Arias and 18-year-old Jaidy Alcala Edinburg Tx. 

Deputies were able to pull the two out of the water, they were rushed to a hospital, but neither survived.  

Autopsies will be performed.  

Meanwhile, sheriff’s officials are continuing to look into the circumstances of the ATV accident that happened near Lake Edinburg a little before 7 p.m. Sunday.  

Two other girls, ages 15 and 12, were injured in the rollover, but were able to get to a nearby home to ask for help.

The family of Jaidy Alcala Edinburg Tx started a Gofundme to raise funds.

Titled ‘Jaidy Rudy Alcala Davila’, it reads…

“This fundraising is for Jaidy she was one of the most kindest souls ever she was the most genuine person we are trying to help her family with her funeral and family needs,”

The fundraiser has so far raised over $7,000 out of a $10,000 target.

Sharing the fundraiser on Facebook, Analyssa Shultis, who identified herself as the sister of Alcala’s boyfriend, wrote: “My brother’s girlfriend,Jaidy, died last night in a tragic accident. 

“If you can find it in your heart to donate toward her funeral expenses, any amount would be appreciated and greatly help her family during this difficult time.  

“She was a sweet girl with a heart of gold.  In the words of my brother, “Girls like her are rare.” 

“She aspired to be a lawyer and was a positive force. May her soul rest in peace,”
