Who is George Castellanos? Security Guard Killed in CityPlace Doral Martini Bar Shooting

A security guard died in a shooting that killed two people and left seven people injured in Martini Bar at CityPlace Doral.

Whilst authorities are yet to identify any of the victims from the shooting, two people at the scene and WPG Local News 10 identified the slain security guard as George Castellanos.

Castellanos attended Doral Academy Charter Middle School and G. Holmes Braddock High School.

The shooting occurred around 3:30am at Martini Bar off Northwest 36th Street when officers responded to the establishment after receiving reports of a shooting.

An argument had broken out among patrons of the bar and Castellanos had stepped in to cool things off when he was shot.

Two officers who arrived at the scene barged in and opened fire at the suspect who fired back.

The suspect was killed whilst one of the two Doral police officers was injured in the shootout and was rushed to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other six people injured were innocent bystanders who were caught in the crossfire including four males and two females.

Two of those victims are listed in critical condition at this time and the rest are stable.

“The officer shot and killed the subject, however, the officer also sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremity,” Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

“One of the officers — the one who was struck — with four years of service, applied a tourniquet on himself immediately after being struck,” Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez said.

“We’re broken right now, totally broken,” George’s mother, Jeanina Castellanos said.

“He was excellent, he would pick up his daughter in the afternoon, bathe her and get her ready so he could go to work,”

“He was an excellent man, he didn’t smoke, he didn’t do anything, he was a good father and a good son,” George Castellanos’ mother added in sorrow.

Neighbors described the scary nature of the scenes at the bar.

“Around 3:15 or 3:30 in the morning, I heard three initial gunshots,” William Suedois, who lives in an apartment building nearby, said.

“Didn’t really know where it was coming from. I thought it was fireworks. Then I heard probably 10 or 15 directly after that — very, very fast and very loud. It was very scary — very scary.”

Miami-Dade police are now investigating the homicide portion of this, while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the officer-involved shooting part.
