Tina Turner’s eldest child was Craig Raymond Turner, born on August 20th 1956 when Tina was only 18 years old and still known by her birth name, Anna Mae Bullock.

She had Craig with Raymond Hill, a saxophonist for the Kings of Rhythm, the backing band for Ike Turner, her eventual husband. Her relationship with Hill didn’t last long and she soon started dating Ike.

Craig grew up to become a real estate agent in Los Angeles. According to Tina, witnessed some of the domestic violence her husband inflicted on her.

“Ike’s children never reacted, but my oldest son, Craig, was a very emotional kid,” Turner told Oprah Winfrey in 2005. “He’d always look down in sadness. One day when Ike was fighting me, Craig knocked on the door and said, ‘Mother, are you all right?’”

Craig went on to become a real estate agent, working for Rodeo Realty in Beverly Hills, according to the Guardian. He was found dead in an apparent suicide in July 2018.

Tina’s third child was Ikr Turner Jnr, born to  Ike Sr. and Lorraine Taylor in 1958. Tina adopted him after marrying Ike Turner Snr.

“Tina raised me from the age of 2. She’s the only mother I’ve ever known,” Ike Turner Jnr said in an interview.

Ike Jr. told the Mail that his father took him out of school at 13 to tour with him. “I ended up running his recording studio, plus going on the road with them,” he said.

Ike Turner Jr. worked as a sound engineer at Bolic Sound and briefly for his mother after her divorce, although his father put a stop to that.

“When my mother and father separated, he did not want me working with her — and he beat me in the head with a nickel-plated .45 pistol,” Ike Jr. alleged.

He later won a Grammy Award for producing his father’s album Risin’ with the Blues.

He toured with former Ikette Randi Love as Sweet Randi Love and the Love Thang Band.

Like most of Tina Turner’s children, Ike Jnr became estranged from her later in her life.

“I know she’s busy, but I don’t know why she hasn’t called. I love her, she brought me up, she’s my mother,” he told Spin in an interview..

“It kind of feels like she’s neglecting us, at least us three, me, Michael and Ronnie.”

In 2018, Ike Jr. said he hadn’t spoken to Tina in over a decade.

“I haven’t talked to my mother since God knows when — probably around 2000,” he told the Mail. “My mother is living her life — she has a new husband and she’s in Europe. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with the past.”

4 Michael Turner

Born in 1959 to Ike Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, Michael Turner was adopted by Tina before her split from Ike in 1978.

Michael struggled in the wake of their divorce. “Michael wanted my mother and father to get back together, and the next thing knew he was in the hospital,” Ike Jr., who shares a close relationship with his younger brother, told Spin in 1985. “He was hurt by their being apart.”

Michael also reportedly dealt with addiction as an adult. “I know in my heart if I called Tina or my father, Ike, right now they would come and help me but I just can’t do it,” he reportedly told the Sunday Mercury. “Tina was really good to me and I love her but I can’t live with anybody. I gotta be free to do what I want to do.”

Ike Jr. told Bobby Eaton in 2017 that Michael was using a wheelchair and had had “several strokes and seizures.”

He also gave an update on his sibling to the Mail on Sunday in 2018. “Michael is in a convalescent home in Southern California and needs medical support,” he shared. “I’ve been to see him quite a few times. He’s doing great.”

Ike Jr. noted that his mother had not visited Michael, but she did support him financially.

An early pioneer of 1950s rock and roll, he is best known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s with his then-wife Tina Turner as the leader of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Turner began playing piano and guitar as a child and then formed the Kings of Rhythm as a teenager.

His first recording, “Rocket 88” (credited to Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats), is considered a contender for the distinction of first rock and roll song. During the 1950s, Turner also worked as a talent scout and producer for Sun Records and Modern Records.

He was instrumental in the early careers of various blues musicians such as B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, and Bobby “Blue” Bland.

In 1954, Turner relocated to East St. Louis where his Kings of Rhythm became one of the most renowned acts in Greater St. Louis.

He formed the Ike & Tina Turner Revue in 1960, which over the course of the decade became a soul/rock crossover success. Turner’s cocaine addiction and legal troubles, together with accounts by Tina Turner of domestic violence (published in her 1986 autobiography I, Tina and the 1993 film adaptation What’s Love Got to Do with It), impacted his career in the 1980s and 1990s.

Addicted to cocaine for at least 15 years, Turner was convicted of drug offenses and served 18 months in prison.

After his release in 1991, he relapsed in 2004, dying of a drug overdose in 2007.

During the last decade of Turner’s life, he revived his career as a frontman by returning to his blues roots. He released two award-winning albums, Here and Now and Risin’ with the Blues.
