Ana Clara Benevides Machado was a 23-year-old Brazilian student who sadly died during a Taylor Swift concert in Rio de Janeiro.

Ana Clara was born in Mato Grosso do Sul to her father, Weiny Machado and her mother.

She hailed from Mato Grosso do Sul but lived in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, where she was studying psychology at the Federal University of Rondonópolis (UFR).

She was due to graduate next year.

“We announce with great regret the passing away of the student Ana Clara Benevides Machado, this Friday (17),” a post from the UFR confirming her death read.

“Ana Clara was 23 years old and was a regular student of the graduate course in Psychology.

“On behalf of the entire academic community, UFR deeply regrets the incident and extends its solidarity to Ana’s friends and family,”

At the university, Benevides was engaged with the student community and was part of the UFR Psychology Academic Athletic Association.

Following her death, the group published a note wishing condolences to family and friends.

“Our sincere condolences to her family and friends at this difficult time. May they find comfort in the memories and love she left as a legacy,” the post reads.

Ana Clara was a huge Taylor Swift fan and was excited to see her in Brazil. She attended her concert on Friday, November 17th 2023.

According to her friend Daniele Menin, they were both huge Swift fans and had promised to do everything to see her when she visited Brazil.

“We always said that when she [Taylor Swift] If they came to Brazil, we would find a way to go, the ticket was very expensive, but we still found a way”, she said in an interview.

“In the second song (Cruel Summer) she simply passed out. Then we took her out with the help of the security guards and ran to the support post in the stadium. They attended to her and took her to the ambulance,” Danielle recalled.

The concert venue was said to be packed and also filled with sweltering heat which was exacerbated by fans not being allowed to enter with water.

According to nurse Thiago Fernandes, 22, a friend of Benevides, she was on the railing when she fainted.

Fernandes said Ana Clara was revived at the stadium for around 40 minutes and then transported to Salgado Filho Hospital.

On the way to the hospital, she had a second loss of consciousness

They arrived at the hospital located near Engenhão, in Méier, north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, around 8 pm where Benevides was treated, but did not survive.

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Ana Clara Benevides Machado, 23 years old,” Tickets For Fun, organisers of the concert said.

“Last night, Ana Clara felt unwell and was promptly attended to by the team of brigade members and paramedics, being taken to the medical station at the Nilton Santos Stadium for the first aid protocol”,

In an Instagram post, father of Ana Clara Benevides, Weiny Machado, is quoted as saying about his daughter’s death: “I lost my only daughter, a happy, intelligent girl. Was due for a psych majors degree next April, saving money.

“I have no words to express my sorrow. She left home to fulfill a dream and came back dead,” he told Folha in an interview.

Ana Clara Benevides Machado, a 23-year-old Taylor Swift fan died at the singer’s Eras Tour concert in Rio de Janeiro Friday night.

While a cause of death for Ana Clara Benevides Machado has not been announced, fans complained they were not allowed to take water into Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium despite soaring temperatures.

According to Wikipedia, “Rio de Janeiro recorded a heat index of 59.3 °C (138.74 °F) on November 17, as part of a heat wave in Brazil, but T4F reportedly banned concert-goers from bringing their own water battles into the stadium, causing thousands of concert-goers faint before and during the show due to dehydration.

“Swift observed several fainted members of the audience half-way through the show and ordered her team to dispense water bottles to them,”

Following Benavides’ death, a group launched an online petition Saturday morning calling for a “Benevides Law” to “make water in events mandatory.”

The petition garnered more than 150,000 signatures in just a few hours.

Federal authorities in Brazil announced that free water would be made available at all future concerts.

“I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show,” Taylor Swift wrote in a handwritten note posted to Instagram.

“I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.

“I want to say now I feel this loss deeply and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends,’ she added.

“This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil,” she added.

Before the show, Benevides posted a video of herself on Instagram wearing a Taylor Swift T-shirt and waiting in line to enter the stadium while seeking shade under an umbrella.

She told her followers while fanning her face that she’d arrived at 11 a.m. — the show began around 7:30 p.m. — and was “still in the mess.”
