All About Jacob Derbin – Euclid Police Officer Killed in Line of duty

A rookie Officer with the Euclid Police Department, Jacob Derbin, was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday.

Derbin, 23, was shot and killed while responding to a call in the 300 block of East 211th Street just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect in the shooting, Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, was on the run but was later found dead at a home in Shaker Heights.

According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Derbin, was within his first year with the department.

Tragically, he had gotten engaged in May 2023 and was scheduled to get married on July 27, 2024.

According to the mayor of Euclid, Derbin responded to a residence for a ‘disturbance’ and was ambushed by his killer, Deshawn Anthony Vaughn.

Derbin was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

“In the wake of the tragic loss of our dedicated officer, we find ourselves grappling with a profound sense of sorrow and disbelief,” Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail said.

“This moment calls for us, as a community, to come together in solidarity and support, not only to honor a hero who selflessly served and protected us but also to offer strength to one another in this time of grief.

“Let us unite in remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifice made, and pledge to uphold the values of compassion, resilience, and community spirit that this devastating loss so poignantly reminds us of,”

Derbin’s killer, Vaughn, was on the run after his death with a massive manhunt underway to capture him.

He was later found dead.
