Who was Ali Hamsa Yusuf? West Jefferson Amazon Fulfilment Center Shooter

Ali Hamsa Yusuf was identified Monday as the Amazon employee who was shot and killed by law enforcement after a shooting at his workplace.

Yusuf, a security guard at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Columbus, opened fire at the facility before taking off after police were called.

He later exchanged fire with officers, hitting one before he was killed.

The officer he shot was admitted to Grant Medical Center and was later released.

West Jefferson Police officers were dispatched to Amazon CMH5 building, located at 6400 State Route 29, for reports of an Active Shooter on May 12, 2024, a release said.

Officers responded from numerous agencies and the building was cleared for threats and victims with no reported injuries.

Authorities said at least one shot was fired within Amazon with a semiautomatic handgun, damaging the building.

The suspect was confirmed as a contractor with Amazon functioning as a security guard.

After the shots were fired, he left the scene in a vehicle prior to Officers arrival.

Shortly later, he was located by Officers in Columbus, and a second incident developed.

Yusuf opened fire on Officers who approached him, striking one Columbus Police Officer.

Officers returned fire, hitting Yusuf who got injured.

He was later pronounced deceased at Doctors West Hospital.

Currently, the Columbus Police Department and Ohio BCI is investigating the Officer involved shooting. Investigations at both locations are open and ongoing.
