A 27-year-old Nigerian youth, Oneoah Augustine, has been arrested for suspected drug trafficking by police in India.
Augustine was part of a group of five members of a ‘drug cartel’ arrested by police in the Alandur area of India.
Alandur is situated in the Chennai District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Police believe the five arrested persons are part of a drug cartel.
Amphetamine was found in their possession upon their arrest to the St. Thomas Mount police station.
Nigerian arrested for drug trafficking in India
According to reports, the 27-year-old Nigerian and alleged accomplices were arrested following a police tip-off.
The St. Thomas Mount police received a tip-off of substance abuse by some youth in the Alandur area.
A special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police A. Ameer Ahamed carried out a raid on a commercial complex.
The Hindu reports, the police found used syringes and empty polythene bags in the room.
Three Indian nationals were arrested in the room, all in possession of amphetamine.
They confessed to receiving the drugs from one J. Arunkumar, who received it from the Nigerian.

Police hunted and arrested Augustine based on the information extracted for J .Arunkumar.
Oneoah Augustine was operating from Bengaluru where the police picked him up.
116 grams of amphetamine, empty syringes, five mobile phones and a weighing machine were seized by police.
